It’s Time To Ease On Down The Road!

Auditions are fast approaching for our upcoming production of the hit musical ‘The Wiz’! We hope you are polishing off your singing voices and getting your ruby slippers…we mean, Dance shoes all set to go!

Even with a week to go until our first day of auditions we have been overwhelmed with lots of enthusiasm towards the production! It goes to show that ‘The Wiz’ truly is a beloved tale for all ages, and why wouldn’t it be when it has a great story, funky dancing and tunes you’ll be humming for days to come!

The Wiz follows Dorothy’s adventures in the Land of Oz to music with a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel, and soul! You may know the story of the ruby slippers, but you haven’t seen it like this!

Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the original massive Broadway hit spawned a feature film starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.

Our production team can’t wait to meet all of the enthusiastic and outstanding young male and female singers, dancers and actors Melbourne has to offer.

There’s still time to book over the next week and we have still have spots available on the 8th and 13th of March! If you are between the ages of 10-18 years, and interested in being involved, Stage Masters would love to see you join us in the Emerald city!

2016 Season – Help us find our show!

We need your help choosing our 2016 season!

2016 is approaching and the time has come to decide on our season. We always want to know what the public wants from our shows, and so we’ve made a survey where you can tell us what shows you’d love to see and/or be a part of. We’d love to hear from you, so please answer the five questions below and maybe the show you vote for will be the one that hits the stage next year…!

Fame – The ‘Hard Work’ pays off!

Stage Masters celebrated our tenth production with an exciting, powerful run of Fame the Musical, brought to life by yet another talented cast of young performers.

From our first ever production of ’13’, Stage Masters have been thrilled to grow alongside the young actors, singers and dancers who have auditioned and performed with us. We’ve traveled over many different genres, styles and time periods with each of our shows, landing firmly in the 80’s with our most recent production, Fame the Musical.

After two weeks of intense rehearsals, Fame opened on October 22nd and received glowing praise from the audience who couldn’t help but sing along under their breath to the catchy and iconic title-song. With a short season – only five performances – every show was bursting to the brim with energy and passion, our young performers inspired and supported by the accomplished professionals who took to the stage as the adult roles.

John O’Hara (Wicked, Cats, The Boy From Oz) played Mr. Myers, bringing his wealth of experience to the role of encouraging drama teacher. Playing the strict Miss Sherman was Francesca Arena (Les Miserables, Fiddler on the Roof), most recently adored on stage as Abuela in In The Heights. Laura Hamilton (Beauty and the Best, Showboat, Hello Dolly) brought dance to the students of The High School of Performing Arts as Miss Bell. And last but not least, the anti-rock-and-roll music teacher Mr. Sheinkopf was played by Karlis Zaid (The Drowsy Chaperone, Jesus Christ Superstar, Company).

The young members of the cast not only had the opportunity to learn from these established professionals, they also were under the guidance of an accomplished production team. Glenn Hogstrum, director of Wicked, helped the cast find their characters, bringing the world to life. Musical Directer Andrew Kroenert worked the cast hard, perfecting their harmonies and making sure every song was executed beautifully. And Jess Benney helped the cast light up the stage with her energetic and dynamic choreography.

We at Stage Masters would like to congratulate the whole cast on the incredible job they did, entertaining the audiences at the Alex Theatre show after show. Putting on a production is not an easy task. Putting on a production with a short rehearsal period and a large cast is even harder. We ask a lot of our young performers and time and time again they deliver amazing performances, bringing not just their talent to the stage, but also their passion and enthusiasm for theatre.

We hope that those of you that saw Fame the Musical enjoyed every minute of it, and we look forward to seeing you all again at the next show!

Bring It On At The Alex Theatre

So, you can tell we’re excited about Bring It On. And we have plenty of reason to be. Not only are we putting on a production of a new musical that has yet to be performed in Melbourne, but we get to debut it at a brand new theatre, the Alex Theatre in St Kilda.

Opened on the site of the old George Cinemas in Fitzroy street, this new venue has not one, but two state-of-the-art theatres as well as a blackbox theatre that doubles as a rehearsal space.

Bring It On Rehearsals Are Underway

Rehearsals are well underway for our upcoming production of Bring It On and the show is taking shape1 Under the direction of our wonderful production team, these talented performers are tumbling, leaping and flipping across the stage like professionals.

Putting on a show is hard work for anyone. It requires long hours of rehearsal, complete focus and most of all, 100% commitment from everyone in the room. Not only do they have to learn complicated harmonies and dance moves, but they are also tasked with bringing life to the characters. A hard job for any professional, which is why we are, as always, blown away by the work of the junior performers that make up our cast.

Bring It On To Hit Melbourne

From an award winning Broadway creative team, comes a hilarious new musical inspired by the hit film. Featuring a colourful assortment of characters, an exciting fresh sound and explosive choreography with aerial stunts – this universal story is sure to be everything you hoped for and nothing like you expected

Campbell is cheer-royalty at Truman High School and her senior year should prove the most cheertastic – she’s been named captain of the squad. But an unexpected redistricting has forced her to spend her final year of high school at the neighbouring hard knock Jackson High School.

Despite having the deck stacked against her Campbell befriends the dance crew girls and along with their headstrong and hardworking leader Danielle, manages to form a powerhouse squad for the ultimate competition, the National Championships.

Bitingly relevant, sprinkled with sass, and inspired by the hit film, BRING IT ON THE MUSICAL will take you on a high-flying journey filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal, and forgiveness.

Stage Masters producers David Venn and Jessica Benney direct this young tour-de-force, 44-person cast, in this exciting, energetic and hilarious new musical.

Stage Masters aims to develop high-quality entertainment, whilst providing educational opportunities for aspiring performers aged between 11 and 18 to develop their skills in all facets of the arts. Production credits include 13- A New Musical, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Into The Woods: Junior, High School Musical and Xanadu.

Following a state wide talent search, BRING IT ON THE MUSICAL will feature some of Victoria’s most outstanding young performers.
